Robert Igbinedion, the lawyer suing on behalf of the teenage girl humiliated with a dirty slap by Bishop Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church in a video which gained worldwide publicity, has filed an appeal challenging the judgement which gave victory to the wealthy Bishop in an Ogun State High Court two months ago. The appeal (Suit No: MT/73/2012) stated that the trial Judge, Mobolaji Ojo placed unnecessary and undue reliance on technicalities of the case to the detriment of the suit. Mr. Igbinedion said that the judge erred in law by concluding that a better affidavit, which he filed to replace the former one after a preliminary objection was raised by the respondent, contained fresh issues.

The Federal Government this evening lifted the suspension of the Operating Licence of Dana Airlines. According to a statement from the Minister of Aviation's office, this action is as a result of government’s satisfaction with the air-worthiness of the airline after a rigorous technical, operational and financial audit of the airline. As a result of this, Dana Airline can resume commercial flight operations in Nigeria. The statement however added that the government would continue to strengthen its oversight and regulatory functions and ensure that all airlines operating in the country, including Dana, would adhere strictly to safety procedures as required by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Act and all other relevant local and international regulations that ensure and promote sustainable air safety. The operating licence of Dana Airlines was temporarily suspended following the crash of one of its aircraft on June 3.

THE proposed N5000 note  will not be for mass circulation, National Planning Minister Shamsudeen Usman said, yesterday. He said the N5,000 note would be reserved for banks and heavy cash users. The minister spoke in an interview with the State House Correspondents after a meeting of the Economic Management Team (EMT) presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan Usman, just as the Federal Government, yesterday, formally endorsed the introduction of the note despite the criticism that has greeted its introduction. At the meeting of the Economic Managament Team chaired by President Goodluck Jonathan, the CBN governor, Sanusi Lamido, also explained the restructuring of the currency. The team also dispelled the fear that the introduction of the note will lead to high rate of inflation, saying that there was no link between inflation and currency denomination.

The police have made another breakthrough in their investigation into the murder of Nasarawa State Graduate student Cynthia Osokogu. Miss Osokogu, 25, was last month lured to Lagos by two men she met on a social media site, who lodge her in a hotel in Festac, where they allegedly  murdered her. Four men are in custody in connection with the murder. Lagos State Police Commissioner Umar Manko said the late Miss Osokogu’s blackberry Bold 5 (9910 model) handset was recovered from Nonso Ezike in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. AIR Nigeria has announced the suspension of all its operations — local, regional and international — with effect from Monday, September10. Ghana's President John Atta- Mills has died, according to a statement sent by the president's office to Reuters on Tuesday. "It is with a heavy heart...that we announce the sudden and untimely death of the president of the Republic of Ghana," the statement said. It said the president, 68, died a few hours after being taken ill but no further details were given.

Sage Stallone 's cause of death is still a mystery ... this according to his official death certificate filed in L.A. The death certificate lists Sage's C.O.D. as "deferred" -- which means the coroner is waiting for the results of various tests, including toxicology, before proclaiming what killed the 36-year-old. The coroner notes that Sage's body was found on July 13 -- but does not specify a definitive date of death. Another disaster hit Plateau State on Sunday night. There was a downpour, followed by floods, which swept away a 90-day-old baby and 37 others. No fewer than 50 people were missing. One of those hit hard by the floods is Indo Abdul Hamid, who lost her six children. The menace was felt badly in Gangare, Tundun Osi, Anguwan Rogo and Kwanan areas of Jos metropolis. The Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State on Sunday faulted the state government’s invitation of prominent Nigerians for the declaration of Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s bid for second term in office slated for Tuesday, alleging that the invitees were paid to attend the event.

Protests on Sunday greeted the release of the results of Saturday’s local government election in Ogun State as the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria swept the polls. As the state Independent Electoral Commission released the results of the poll, the main opposition parties, the People’s Democratic Party and the People’s Party of Nigeria kicked, rejecting the outcome of the exercise. The electoral body said the ACN recorded a landslide victory in the council poll winning 19 chairmanship seats out of the 20 in the state. OGSIEC added that the ruling party won 217 councillorship seats, while the PDP and the PPN won eight and one councillorship seats respectively. The commission withheld the results of Imeko-Afon Local Government council pending the determination of a court order in respect of the poll in the area.
