Robert Igbinedion, the lawyer suing on behalf of the teenage girl humiliated with a dirty slap by Bishop Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church in a video which gained worldwide publicity, has filed an appeal challenging the judgement which gave victory to the wealthy Bishop in an Ogun State High Court two months ago. The appeal (Suit No: MT/73/2012) stated that the trial Judge, Mobolaji Ojo placed unnecessary and undue reliance on technicalities of the case to the detriment of the suit. Mr. Igbinedion said that the judge erred in law by concluding that a better affidavit, which he filed to replace the former one after a preliminary objection was raised by the respondent, contained fresh issues.

The Federal Government this evening lifted the suspension of the Operating Licence of Dana Airlines. According to a statement from the Minister of Aviation's office, this action is as a result of government’s satisfaction with the air-worthiness of the airline after a rigorous technical, operational and financial audit of the airline. As a result of this, Dana Airline can resume commercial flight operations in Nigeria. The statement however added that the government would continue to strengthen its oversight and regulatory functions and ensure that all airlines operating in the country, including Dana, would adhere strictly to safety procedures as required by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Act and all other relevant local and international regulations that ensure and promote sustainable air safety. The operating licence of Dana Airlines was temporarily suspended following the crash of one of its aircraft on June 3.

THE proposed N5000 note  will not be for mass circulation, National Planning Minister Shamsudeen Usman said, yesterday. He said the N5,000 note would be reserved for banks and heavy cash users. The minister spoke in an interview with the State House Correspondents after a meeting of the Economic Management Team (EMT) presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan Usman, just as the Federal Government, yesterday, formally endorsed the introduction of the note despite the criticism that has greeted its introduction. At the meeting of the Economic Managament Team chaired by President Goodluck Jonathan, the CBN governor, Sanusi Lamido, also explained the restructuring of the currency. The team also dispelled the fear that the introduction of the note will lead to high rate of inflation, saying that there was no link between inflation and currency denomination.

The police have made another breakthrough in their investigation into the murder of Nasarawa State Graduate student Cynthia Osokogu. Miss Osokogu, 25, was last month lured to Lagos by two men she met on a social media site, who lodge her in a hotel in Festac, where they allegedly  murdered her. Four men are in custody in connection with the murder. Lagos State Police Commissioner Umar Manko said the late Miss Osokogu’s blackberry Bold 5 (9910 model) handset was recovered from Nonso Ezike in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He said Ezike is a graduate of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Federal University of technology (FUTO), Owerri.

AIR Nigeria has announced the suspension of all its operations — local, regional and international — with effect from Monday, September10. The suspension, according to the management of the airline, is due to staff disloyalty and environmental tension, “which are not conducive for business in the aviation sector.” The airline regretted any inconvenience the decision would cause its passengers on all the routes and advised them to contact agents from whom they had purchased tickets for refunds.
